Employee Interview

New Chitose Airport Office Retail Department Retail Section

I am in charge of the commercial development, operation management, and sales promotion of New Chitose Airport, and am in charge of sales promotion and promotion planning for the entire airport, as well as the operation management of some of the entertainment facilities. Currently, as a member of a partial airport renewal project, I am involved in everything from concept considerations to specific spatial design and tenant planning.

In my previous job, I was in charge of overseas sales at a venture travel agency specializing in inbound tourism. Seeking to make an impact, I even cold-called local companies wearing a yukata. As the company grew, I wanted to try a new job in a new environment that would allow me to contribute to my hometown of Hokkaido, so I decided to change jobs to HAP.

When he joined the company, he was assigned to Obihiro Airport, where he gained experience in the general affairs department, handling all aspects of the airport's privatization. After privatization, he was in charge of public relations and event planning, and planned and executed the "Airport Camping Event" with the cooperation of the local community. After transferring to the head office, he was involved in promoting the systematization and creation of rules for the company's public relations system in the head office public relations department, where he continues to work to this day.

Our company has members with a wide variety of cultures and backgrounds, including myself. While differences in thinking and work methods can make coordination difficult, this often leads to interesting ideas. Even in the retail division, we are making progress in new initiatives and streamlining efforts, unconstrained by precedents and customs from before privatization.

There are many restrictions in airports for the sake of safety and security, but I always keep in mind "thinking about how we can do it, not why we can't do it." Because the airport is visited by a wide variety of people, I think about plans from the perspective of what I would enjoy if I were a customer, and I look for ways to make them a reality.

HAP operates seven airports in Hokkaido, and has a wide range of relationships with many parties, and there is a lot of coordination required to ensure safety and security, so cooperation is extremely important. At the same time, I think it's also important to have a proactive attitude of "This is what I want to do!" I would be happy to work with people who are willing to take on challenges without being bound by precedent, while involving many people.

How to spend your holidays

A day off goes by so quickly, whether we're going out with the family or to the local park. I take my kids to New Chitose Airport once a month. My son loves watching the runway from the window in the food court on the third floor.
