Employee Interview
New Chitose Airport Office Sales Department Sales Section
Please tell us about your work
Many companies occupy counters and offices within the airport, and the Sales Department is the point of contact for contracts with each company. I am mainly in charge of domestic flights tenants and Lounge operated by HAP. For example, when an airline carries out construction work around its counters, I coordinate the work and handle applications.
How did you end up joining HAP?
I graduated and started working for Hokkaido Airport Corporation, which operates New Chitose Airport Terminal Building, and was assigned to the Sales Department 2 (now Retail Department), where I was mainly involved in contracting and managing food and beverage outlets. I then moved to the newly formed HAP and was transferred to my current department in July 2021. just returned to work after a year of maternity leave.
How do you balance work and childcare?
I generally work reduced hours (9:00-16:00), but I try to be flexible and work outside of those hours depending on the client. I think that the reduced workload has put a strain on my colleagues in the department, but everyone is very kind and supportive, so I'm able to balance work and child-rearing.
Were you worried about returning from maternity leave?
I had been away from work for a whole year, and I realized that my "work brain" wasn't working properly, so I can't say I wasn't anxious. Furthermore, I was in daily contact with a baby who couldn't speak, so I was worried about whether I would be able to have a business-like conversation. Since returning to work, I've gradually regained my previous instincts through my work.
What is most important to you in your work?
I try to maintain close communication on a daily basis. Whether a resident comes to me for advice or I make a request, things go more smoothly if I have built a good relationship with them. When I ask someone in the company for a favor, it's easier if I have a relationship where I can talk to them casually on a daily basis.
What message would you like to give to those who want to become HAP?
I think of HAP as a company like a puzzle. We have employees with a variety of backgrounds, and as they come together and separate, it feels like they're forming one big picture. Each piece is unique, so it's fascinating not knowing what kind of picture will come out. Let's work together to create a wonderful picture!

How to spend your holidays
My life revolves around my children, so I'm busy raising them even on my days off. There are many large parks in Tomakomai where I live, so I'd like to take them to various parks. When they get a little older, I'd like to take them on a family walk around Otaru.
