Employee Interview

Wakkanai Airport Business Office Management Department General Affairs Division

The General Affairs Department, to put it simply, is the airport's "jack of all trades." It is a department that is involved in a wide range of tasks related to the operation of Terminal Building, and also plays a role in supporting each department to ensure that their work proceeds smoothly. In addition to that, I also handle self-monitoring as the internal safety audit manager for the SMS (Safety Management System).

I'm originally from Osaka. I was captivated by the natural beauty of Hokkaido, which I visited many times on my travels, and decided to move there before turning 30. While searching for a new job, I found HAP, which has bases at seven airports in Hokkaido, and applied because I thought I would be able to work in Hokkaido's major cities. When the topic of Wakkanai Airport came up during the interview, I thought it would be interesting to start from the northernmost point.

I feel that this is an environment where it is easy to take on new challenges, as new styles and methods are flexibly accepted without being bound by conventional customs. In my previous job, I worked while being exposed to the diverse ways of thinking of various employees, and this realization that "there are other ways of thinking" has led to my own growth.

Cooperation with a diverse range of staff is essential to running an airport. There is only so much I can do on my own, so if I feel like I'm overwhelmed, I try to ask for help right away. At the same time, I try to share what I'm doing with those around me. We want to avoid a situation in the organization where only one person knows something.

My goal is not only to learn the various tasks at HAP, but also to work at all seven airports. I would like to gain a deeper understanding of the characteristics of each airport by actually working on-site. I started my career at Wakkanai Airport, where I was allowed to try anything, so I would like to continue taking on new challenges at other airports in the future.

At small airports with limited manpower, you have to handle a variety of tasks. I think this job is suitable for people who can think positively about this. I also work in the restaurant kitchen during busy periods, and I see it as an opportunity to make use of my experience working part-time in the food and beverage industry as a student. Let's enjoy the various tasks at the airport together!

How to spend your holidays

On my days off, I often take my camera and go out here and there. I think the charm of Hokkaido is that once you get a little distance from the city, you can find picturesque natural scenery everywhere. By the way, this summer I went to Hakodate in my own light car.
