Employee Interview

Kushiro Airport Business Office Management Department General Affairs Division

While working in the General Affairs Division to create an environment where employees can work comfortably, I also serve as the liaison for external parties, thanks to my extensive connections with local government, tourism, and economic organizations. In cooperation with local governments and various organizations, I am in charge of running airport councils and implementing measures to attract domestic and international flights, as well as working on energy-related tasks such as decarbonization.

When I heard about the privatization of Hokkaido's seven airports, I intuitively felt that this company would become a driving force in Hokkaido's tourism industry. In my previous job, I had a lot of involvement with the tourism industry, including being involved in attracting charter flights, so I decided to change jobs with the hope of further promoting Hokkaido through the airports.

As we are a new company, we built our foundation by sharing information with people from other offices. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we were unable to meet face-to-face, so we managed to get by by communicating via web conferences and phone calls. I still keep in touch with the founding members, and we often talk about how difficult those times were.

My proposal for a "car wash and coating business" was selected in an internal proposal call. It is a business that makes cars that customers leave at the airport while they are traveling or on a business trip sparkle. We will first conduct a trial run at Kushiro Airport and then explore expanding to other airports. It has been about two months since we started, but we have received many inquiries and are seeing positive results.

Kushiro is a region of Hokkaido that is rich in nature and is popular for activities such as camping and canoeing. Therefore, by taking advantage of the characteristics of the region, employees are proactively working on planning, designing and running events from scratch to make the airport more familiar to local residents, such as sauna events using the observation deck at the airport, stargazing tours from the runway, and marathons running along the runway.

HAP has a corporate culture that encourages employees to take on challenges on their own initiative, and the range of work is wide, so it seems like a good fit for people who are proactive and can tackle anything. The company will continue to grow, and by deepening your knowledge in various parts of Hokkaido, you will also be able to grow significantly. We are looking for people who want to liven up Hokkaido from the airport.

Hokkaido Recommendations Wakoto Peninsula (Teshikaga Town)

How to spend your holidays

I'm hooked on canoeing on the Wakoto Peninsula, located on the south side of Lake Kussharo. As you go around the peninsula, you can see the remains of the volcano, with the earth and mud bubbling away, which is a very impressive sight. Sunset canoeing as the sun sets is also a great experience.
