Employee Interview

Memanbetsu Airport Office Airport Operations Department Security and Disaster Prevention Division

The Security and Disaster Prevention Division is responsible for preventing accidents and crimes at airports and involving aircraft. I mainly handle management tasks within the division, and am also responsible for planning and implementing training related to preventing crimes involving aircraft. Ensuring safety and security in the skies is an important mission, so I feel a sense of accomplishment every time I see aircraft taking off and landing safely.

In my previous job, I was a local government employee, and while I was involved in tourism administration, I began to want to work in a wider area. It was around that time that I learned about the establishment of Hokkaido Airport, and I was inspired by their master plan to promote the appeal of Hokkaido and contribute to regional revitalization. I wanted to work hard to revitalize the Hokkaido region at this new company.

Currently, we work as a team of five people, and I am in charge of managing the team as a leader. As the members are of different ages and work experience, it is important to communicate closely through meetings and exchanges of opinions, and to work together to unify the awareness of the department.

Regular online meetings are being held by security and disaster prevention personnel from the seven airports. While many topics are discussed, such as sharing the status of training exercises at each airport and security and firefighting and rescue systems, the most important aspect is sharing case studies. This is a valuable opportunity to apply cases that have occurred at other airports to our own airports and simulate responses.

We conduct a large-scale comprehensive firefighting and rescue drill every two years, which is carried out with the cooperation of many related organizations, including the fire department, police, Self-Defense Forces, and airlines. Since there can be no flaws in communication and coordination with all parties, we spend six months preparing thoroughly. The sense of accomplishment after the drill was completed without incident was exceptional.

When you work at HAP, airports become a part of your daily life, but for the customers who use them, airports are still special places. Safety and security are a given, but I think we also need to improve the hospitality of the airport itself. Why not join us in creating an exciting airport in Hokkaido?
