Employee Interview

Memanbetsu Airport Business Office Management Department General Affairs Division

The General Affairs Department that I belong to is "Memanbetsu Airport 's jack-of-all-trades." Within that department, I am in charge of accounting, which involves managing the airport's finances, including issuing invoices and settling receipts. However, pure accounting work accounts for only about 40% of the total. The rest involves dealing with all sorts of airport-related matters, including designing the various information posters that are displayed within the airport.

Ever since I was a child, I have loved the exciting, extraordinary feeling of airports, so I decided to work at an airport and researched airport management companies across the country. I am originally from the Kanto region, but the scale of HAP, which operates seven airports in Hokkaido, was a big attraction for me. Another reason I wanted to work there was that it has strong ties with the local community, such as promoting tourism, and I thought I could put the knowledge I gained from my university degree in tourism to good use.

It's a very easy place to work because you can ask questions immediately if you don't understand something, and your superiors take the time to listen to your suggestions when you notice something or want to try something new. Even though I was a new employee, I came up with an idea for a poster that I thought would be good, and I was really happy when I made the poster and put it up in Terminal Building.

My senior colleague and I handle all the accounting for the airport. By watching the flow of money, you can get a clear understanding of HAP's work. Everything is visible, from the budget for each project to the actual costs incurred and the results achieved. That's what's most interesting about it, and I think it's amazing that I've been put in charge of all the accounting in my first year at the company.

In my university research lab, I analyzed the impact that transportation hubs such as train stations and airports have on tourism. In the future, I would like to use that experience to get involved in tourism development centered around airports. My first goal is to become a reliable presence as a member of HAP, and I am working hard and having fun in the diverse range of work I do every day.

HAP is a growing company, so it's perfect for people who have ideas they want to make, such as "I want to make the airport a place like this" or "I want to promote tourism in Hokkaido." Try out your ideas, and if they work out, that's great. If they don't, you can think of something else. HAP is a company filled with a positive, challenging spirit, so be yourself and thrive.

How to spend your holidays

I'm a big Fighters fan, and I enjoy watching games on TV and going to the stadium. I'll probably be at Escon Field more than 10 times this season. I also love the outdoors, and often go for drives and fishing.
