Towards the 100th anniversary of Daisetsuzan National Park

Daisetsuzan National Park, one of the largest in Japan, is home to a nearly untouched "primitive mountain environment," and was designated a national park on December 4, 1934.
The mountainous area that makes up Hokkaido's Central Highlands is home to a rich array of rare ecosystems, including pikas and parsley butterflies, which are thought to be survivors of the Ice Age.
Furthermore, the vibrant alpine plant communities, centered around species endemic to Daisetsuzan such as Aconitum monkshood, create a beautiful landscape that the Ainu people called "Kamuy Mintara (the playground of the gods)" and warmly welcome climbers.
However, in recent years, environmental problems such as human waste littering have become serious, especially in shelters and campsites that do not have toilets. To improve this issue, bringing a portable toilet is becoming a standard part of mountaineering etiquette.
With the aim of promoting sustainable mountaineering and protecting the environment, this tour will gift all participants original ponchos, developed in collaboration with the outdoor brand CHUMS, which are easy to use and can also be used as a blindfold when using the portable toilets.
We hope that this will encourage you to enjoy the splendor of Daisetsuzan National Park to the fullest, while also raising awareness of the need to conserve the natural environment.
Daisetsuzan National Park will celebrate its 90th anniversary in 2024. As we look ahead to the next 100 years, we are pursuing sustainable tourism methods to preserve the beauty of Mount Daisetsu into the future.
