Environmental Initiatives

[Aircraft noise measurement]

Hokkaido Airports conducts aircraft noise measurements to understand the noise levels around seven airports.
We will strive to be considerate of the living environment of residents living near the airport by monitoring aircraft noise in the surrounding area and disclosing information.

Aircraft noise measurement results at each airport

※1
Specific airports designated by government ordinance under Article 2 of the Law Concerning Prevention of Disturbances Caused by Aircraft Noise in the Vicinity of Public Airports
※2
Year-round measurement: Measurement of aircraft noise continuously throughout the year at fixed measurement points around the airport using automatic noise monitoring equipment.
Short-term measurements: Aircraft noise measurements are conducted periodically, in principle for seven consecutive days, at specific locations temporarily set up around the airport.

[Community Coexistence Projects: Various Subsidized Projects]

Hokkaido Airports has taken over the subsidy business at New Chitose Airport, Hakodate Airport, and Kushiro Airport that was previously implemented by the Airport and Environmental Improvement Corporation. In order to promote symbiosis between the airport and the local community, the airport is working to improve the environment around the airport and is supporting projects to revitalize the local area.

[Environmental measures: legally supported projects]

Hakodate Airport is designated as a "designated airport" that implements environmental measures based on the Law on Prevention of Disturbances Caused by Aircraft Noise in the Vicinity of Public Airports. Hokkaido Airport has taken over the environmental measures previously implemented by the national government, and subsidizes all or part of the costs of residential noise prevention measures implemented by Hakodate City for homes in areas designated as noise control zones (Class 1 zones) by national government notification.

[Eco Airport]

Eco-Airport Councils have been established at each airport in Hokkaido, and Hokkaido Airport has taken over from these, setting targets every 10 years and working to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2). In addition to reducing CO2, the airport is also working to conserve water and reduce waste.
