Aiming to be an airport company that works together with the local community

Hokkaido Airports Co., Ltd. implements environmental measures in accordance with relevant laws and regulations to operate the airports in an environmentally friendly manner.

Message from the President
~ Aiming to become an airport company that works hand in hand with the local community

Our company was established in 2019 as a private company that manages seven airports in Hokkaido (New Chitose, Wakkanai, Kushiro, Hakodate, Asahikawa, Obihiro, and Memanbetsu). This is the first such initiative in Japan, and we have received support from many people not only in Hokkaido but also from both within Japan and overseas.

The basis of airport operations is above all to ensure the safety and security of aircraft operations. However, in recent years, responding to climate change on a global scale has become an urgent issue. In Japan, too, the Prime Minister's Policy Speech included a declaration to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, and environmental efforts have become an important theme internationally.

In light of this situation, environmental measures at airports have so far focused on aircraft noise countermeasures. However, since the announcement of the "Basic Policy on Airport Establishment and Management" in 2008, in addition to the previous measures, airports are now being asked to proactively undertake various measures to reduce environmental impact, such as air pollution, energy conservation, and recycling.

For this reason, we aim to coexist with the surrounding environment and are taking measures to reduce aircraft noise. We are also strengthening our environmental monitoring system with the cooperation of local governments around the airport and publishing the results of monitoring on our website, etc.

We will also strive to maintain green spaces and conserve biodiversity, and strive to create a space that offers airport users a sense of relaxation and comfort that is characteristic of Hokkaido.
Meanwhile, the people of Hokkaido have high expectations for us to contribute to the promotion of Hokkaido's economy by attracting new routes and promoting tourism. In order to realize these expectations, we signed a partnership agreement with the governor and the mayors of the municipalities where the airports are located in 2020.

Based on this agreement, we will act as the secretariat of the "Council for the Integrated Management of Hokkaido's Seven Airports," which will receive opinions on airport operations from relevant parties in the locations of the seven airports, and will regularly hold "Airport Councils" to receive opinions from local residents in each airport location. Through these efforts, we will work towards the realization of a community-based society in which local communities and companies work together.
