[IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT From ANIMAL QUARANTINE SERVICE] For travelers who possess meat/food involving meat.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries' Animal Quarantine Service has established the following measures to prevent the entry of infectious livestock diseases into Japan:

Quarantine inspections are being conducted on meat products (food products including meat, sausages, ham, etc.).

If you have brought meat or meat-containing foods from overseas,

Please be sure to declare your pet at the Animal Quarantine Counter before customs inspection and undergo animal quarantine inspection.

Currently, many countries are experiencing outbreaks of virulent infectious livestock diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease and African swine fever.

In addition, it is difficult to obtain inspection certificates for souvenirs or meat products for personal consumption.

Most meat products and animal products cannot be brought into Japan.

You may be arrested for illegally bringing in meat or food containing meat. Violators are subject to fines and/or imprisonment.
